APPROACH

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Listening Through the Body

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a body-inclusive approach to therapy online that helps you understand how experience lives in the nervous system not only in thoughts, but in sensation, breath, and movement. When insight isn’t enough, we begin within.

UNDERSTANDING

When the Body Still Feels on Alert

You may already understand your history, your patterns, your triggers. And still, your body reacts as if danger is nearby with a tight chest, shallow breath, urgency, collapse, spinning thoughts that won’t let go.

These aren’t failures. They are intelligent protective responses shaped by survival, relationship, and experience.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (sometimes called sensorimotor therapy) helps you work with these responses gently without shaming them, overriding them, or forcing catharsis..

SUPPORT

What This Can Shift

A steadier nervous system
Less pulled into fight, flight, or shutdown. More able to stay present.
More choice in the moment
Space to notice an automatic reaction beginning and respond differently.
A different relationship with emotion
Emotion as information you can stay close to, without being overtaken.
Stronger internal agency
Your body becomes guidance again, not something to fear or override.
Relief in daily life
More breath. More sleep. Clearer boundaries. Fewer spirals. Less self-abandonment.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy online can be especially supportive for overwhelm, burnout, dissociation, chronic stress, attachment wounds, and trauma-related nervous system patterns without requiring you to relive painful events in order to heal.

IN SESSION

How We Work

Sessions are slow, collaborative, and consent-based. We follow what feels true, not what feels efficient.

We might gently pause and notice:

  • What happens in your chest as you say that?
  • Is your breath moving or holding?
  • Do you notice an impulse to pull back?
  • Do your shoulders want to lift, brace, or turn away?

Sometimes we simply notice. Sometimes we experiment lightly with what the body is already hinting toward a small shift in posture, pressing your feet into the ground, allowing a movement to complete.

Nothing is forced. You are always in choice.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is not a script. It is a way of listening.

ONLINE THERAPY

Body-Based Work in Virtual Sessions

Meaningful nervous system work can happen in online therapy for adults. In some ways, virtual sessions deepen the work because you’re in your own space. Your nervous system doesn’t have to manage travel, waiting rooms, or unfamiliar environments.

We adapt the work to your real life:

  • Resourcing with what’s already in your space
  • Grounding through breath and orientation
  • Tracking sensation while anchored to safety
  • Creating clear pacing so you don’t leave raw or alone

This is virtual counselling in BC and across Canada that respects the body’s pace and builds stability gradually.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION

Supervision that honours your voice, your work, and your becoming.

More than a licensing requirement, supervision here is spacious, somatically grounded care. In one-to-one video sessions we unpack casework, ethics, presence, and self-trust while staying rooted in social location and justice-informed practice.

FIT

Finding the Right Fit

This approach may resonate if:

  • You feel overwhelmed, shut down, or reactive without always knowing why
  • Insight hasn’t translated into lasting change
  • Your body feels tense, numb, or hard to trust
  • You want therapy that moves slowly and respects your nervous system
  • You’re curious about Sensorimotor Psychotherapy but unsure how it works

It may not feel supportive right now if:

  • You prefer highly structured, worksheet-driven sessions
  • You want a directive model with clear instructions each week
  • You want deep body work immediately without first building stability

IN CONTEXT

Part of Our Broader Practice

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is one of the ways we work — not a stand-alone technique.

It’s woven into our relational and experiential approach to online therapy for adults, alongside other practices that support meaning-making, attachment repair, and self-understanding.

We follow your lead. We draw on sensorimotor therapy when it helps, and set it aside when something else fits better.
